Goodwood to celebrate Lotus at the 2023 Revival

30th March 2023

Another legend of motorsport will be put under the spotlight at the 2023 Goodwood Revival. This year we will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of Lotus with a showcase of 75 historic cars that will pay homage to “The Chapman Years”, from the marque’s foundation by Colin Chapman in 1948 until his death in 1982.

The Lotus name will be celebrated throughout the Revival weekend, as a sublime selection of historic Formula 1 cars, sportscars, trials machines and even Chapman’s own Lotus Elan will take to the track for a series of demonstrations and displays.

Among the headline cars will be the Lotus 18 that took the first win for a Lotus-built car in F1 at the 1960 Monaco Grand Prix with Sir Stirling Moss. But you can expect to see much more from those hugely successful years for Lotus, with cars driven by Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi and more set to be in attendance.

We’re excited to once again welcome Lotus to Goodwood, it’s a relationship steeped in history. The official F1 lap record here at the Motor Circuit remains that set by Jim Clark (tied with Jackie Stewart) –a 1:20.4 in a Lotus 25 in 1965.

We will also be welcoming the Chapman family back to Goodwood. Colin and his wife Hazel Chapman both raced at the Motor Circuit alongside their efforts together running Team Lotus. Their son Clive continues the legacy with Classic Team Lotus, and he will be in attendance for the celebrations at the Revival.

Speaking ahead of the celebration, he said: “Goodwood represents many landmarks in the story of Lotus. We had many famous victories - often with my father behind the wheel - when the Circuit was first in operation and, since the Revival and Members’ Meetings were established, Lotus has played a significant role in these glorious events. A personal highlight for me has been seeing Hazel and Colin’s grandchildren witness their grandparents’ famous cars continue to win prestigious races at Goodwood all these years later. As Lotus Cars experiences an extraordinary period of growth and develops into a global brand for the future, it is the perfect time to celebrate our history in such splendid style. Thank you to all the Lotus owners and mechanics supporting the Lotus Celebration at the Revival.”

The Duke of Richmond said: “I am delighted that we will be celebrating Lotus at the Revival later this year. With such a closely-linked history, 2023 is the perfect occasion to mark both our 75-year anniversaries. The Revival will showcase an incredible array of cars which illustrate the ingenuity of Colin Chapman and the remarkable contribution of the Chapman family to motorsport, both at Goodwood and further afield.”

Taking place across the weekend, the Lotus celebration will join the previously-announced Carroll Shelby tribute. The 2023 Goodwood Revival will be taking place from Friday 8th - Sunday 10th September.
