Goodwood Revival 2024 after dark

08th September 2024

As the spectators disperse at the end of another day at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, the paddocks of the Revival fall silent in the darkness. Cars are tucked safely away under their covers, disturbed only by the bustle of mechanics busy working away on repairs ahead of one final day of action. Only a very lucky few remain to wander the deserted boulevards lined with precious historic racing cars.

We look first towards the beauties of the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy as they rest after a stunning race earlier in the day. Aston Martin DB4GTs, Jaguar E-types and Ferrari 250 GT SWBs are hypnotic in this environment, with the soft lighting glinting off their sleek bodywork.

Memories of Friday evening’s Sussex Trophy come flooding back as the Lotus 15s come into view, the number 24 car proudly displaying its podium wreath. That already feels like so long ago, so we appreciate the opportunity to take a moment and embrace this wonderful event.

There’s still plenty of racing action left to go, though, and the RAC TT Celebration cars sit quietly in the paddocks, awaiting their moment in the limelight. The Porsche 906 parked alongside a Bizzarrini 5300GT might be one of our favourite shots of the weekend as we anticipate the Revival’s blue riband race on Sunday afternoon.

You can just about make out the shape of a world championship winning Ferrari 158 beneath an illuminated red cover in the paddocks for the John Surtees tribute, taking pride of place alongside its NART-liveried contemporary.

Our tour comes to an end among the wonderful characters of the 500cc Formula 3 cars in the Earl of March Trophy and the early-era Grand Prix cars of the Goodwood Trophy. Eye-catching machinery everywhere you look, and each of these cars has its own unique story to tell.

The Revival paddocks are a magical place of serenity when night falls, providing an opportunity for quiet contemplation with only the memories of historic motorsport legends for company.
