Gallery: The wild warplanes of Goodwood

08th May 2020

Goodwood Motor Circuit was built using the perimeter roads of World War II airfield RAF Westhampnett, so it of course it makes absolute sense that aviation remains a part of Goodwood’s history.

There’s still the modern airfield, which sees planes of various shapes and sizes take to the skies on a daily basis. But what about warplanes? Well there’s a resident Spitfire, courtesy of the Boultbee Flight Academy, and a 1943 Harvard Warbird. But events like the Revival have present Goodwood the opportunity to host quite a few more battlebirds than that

So here’s a simple gallery of planes at Goodwood, from Spitfires and Hurricanes to P51 Mustangs and Lancaster Bombers.

Oh and it would be rude not to mention that photo, the one of a Spitfire caning its way down the home straight at the 1998 Revival. How surprised do you think the photographer facing away from the approaching Spitfire would have been?
