2024 Fordwater Trophy preview | Goodwood Revival

This year we’re back with a variety of production-based sports and GT cars, this time hailing from 1955-1960 and as with all races in the 2024 schedule the Ford Water Trophy will be run exclusively on sustainable fuel.

Which cars are in the Fordwater Trophy?

While last year’s running featured an all-911 grid and the previous race in 2019 featured later cars up to the mid-‘60s, this year’s grid winds the clock back a few years. In fact, we haven’t run a Fordwater Trophy with this 1955-1960 range of cars since 2013. 

Cars you could expect to see in this race range from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce, to the AC ACE, to the Austin Healey 100/6 – the winner of the last time this race covered this age range – to the Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France. You’ll almost certainly see Jaguar XK140s, Mercedes 300SLs, Porsche 356s, Triumphs and MGs, too.

Which drivers are in the Fordwater Trophy?

All sorts of drivers ought to be present during the Fordwater Trophy, from fully paid-up race winners, to gentleman drivers and owners. Past winners include Le Mans alum Darren Turner, Patrick Blakeney-Edwards and even back in 2001, Charles Morgan. Yes, that Charles Morgan, then-managing director of Morgan, who surprise surprise, was driving a Morgan Plus 4. The last time the race ran this 1955-1960 lineup, Chris Harris joined Jochen Mass and Max Girardo among others in an excellent lineup of drivers and cars.

When is the Fordwater Trophy?

Last year, the Fordwater Trophy was the late-afternoon fixture and Saturday’s penultimate race, and we expect that to be the same this year, though that’s to be confirmed when the timetable for the Goodwood Revival is released.
