29th August 2023
Ben Miles

The 2023 Goodwood Revival is just a matter of days away, so we’re extremely happy to share the timetable for the event. The culmination of a year-long celebration of Goodwood 75, as well as a chance to commemorate the incredible legacies of Lotus and Carrol Shelby, this year’s Revival is set to be an incredible spectacle.

What’s happening on Friday at Revival?

For those who aren’t able to join in the Thursday shenanigans, the gates will open on Friday at 07:30 exclusively to all GRRC Members and Fellows, with the general public allowed in at 08:30. As is traditional, the morning will begin with a stunning flypast of historic airplanes. There really is nothing quite like the sound of a Merlin engine at 08:00 to get you in the Revival mood. These opening times will be the same on all three days.

Once you’re in and have your bacon sandwich and coffee in hand, the track action will get underway at 9:00 sharp on Friday with a parade of around 200 motorcycles helping to celebrate the 75th anniversary of motorsport at Goodwood, the 25th anniversary of the Revival, 100 years of BMW Motorrad, 120 years of Harley-Davidson and 130 years of Royal Enfield all at once.

Once the bikes have cleared the track, practice can begin. With this year being an anniversary year for the Goodwood Nine Hours, the Freddie March Memorial Trophy’s battle for 1950s sportscars takes the iconic Friday night slot into darkness. Practice for this race is therefore the very first event on track for the weekend on Friday at 09:30.

Through the rest of the day every single car due to race over the weekend will be on track for practice – your only chance to see all of the cars of the weekend. We will also celebrate 75 years of Lotus at 11:25 and the legacy of Carroll Shelby at 15:30. Unique also to Friday is a tribute to the life of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty passed away on the eve of the Revival last year and with the event falling on the first anniversary of her passing, the Revival will celebrate with a parade of some of her cars.

Track action will come to a memorable close on Friday with the Freddie March Memorial Trophy’s two-driver 45-minute race into the setting sun. It’s always a spectacular sight to see these cars race at Goodwood as the sky transitions from blue to golden before dusk.

Throughout all three days the Revive and Thrive village will also be open with talks and demonstrations on all sorts of vintage fashion and sustainability subjects. You can find a separate timetable just for that here.

What’s happening on track on Saturday at the 2023 Revival?

Saturday kicks off with the motorcycle parade at 09:00 before the Goodwood Trophy gets the weekend’s racing action underway at 09:25 celebrating the grand prix cars that raced when Goodwood first opened.

Seven races will take place across the second day of Revival, including the first parts of both the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy for racing motorcycles and the St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul for 1950s touring cars.

There will also be a timed practice for the RAC TT Celebration, as the big GT cars of Sunday’s showpiece race get one final chance to set a time and perfect their setup before the race.

The first part of the Settrington Cup is scheduled for 11:45 while our celebrations of Carroll Shelby and Lotus return at 11:45 and 16:15 respectively. Fans of Ferrari will want to keep an eye out for the Lavant Cup presented by Sky Cinema (14:15) and those who love the Le Mans 24 Hours should set their 24 hour clocks for the Rudge Whitworth Cup (15:20).

Saturday’s track action will close with the awesome power of Can-Am and Group 7 unlimited sportscars as they battle for the Whitsun Trophy. This final race kicks off at 16:50.

What happens on Sunday at Revival this year?

The last day of the 2023 Goodwood Revival will kick off again at 09:00 with the parade of motorcycles, before they give way to the Chichester Cup’s Formula Junior racers at 09:25 for the first race of the day.

There’re no practice sessions on Sunday, just full-blooded racing action. Seven races headline this track action, including of course the anticipated RAC TT Celebration, which will kick off for an hour of frantic, hear-racing action at 13:50.

The second part of the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy (10:25) adds more bike action to the weekend while early F1 fans will be kept busy watching the Richmond & Gordon Trophies (12:35) and Glover Trophy (15:30). Between them these races will bring Formula 1 from the mid-1950s right through to the closure of the Motor Circuit in 1966.

Lotus will be celebrated at 11:15 and Carroll Shelby at 16:15 and flag drops on the second round of the fan favourite Settrington Cup at 11:55.

As much as we won’t want it to happen, something has to bring the weekend, and our 2023 motorsport season, to a close. This year that will be the second part of the St. Mary’s Trophy, as the owners of the cars try to follow up the VIPs that raced on Saturday and clinch that aggregate victory at 17:45. This finishing spot has so often gone to the late 1950s sportscar beauties of the Sussex Trophy, and fear not, they’ve not been forgotten, merely shifted to the position of penultimate race at 16:50.

Over the Road will stay open after the track action closes each day, closing at 22:00 on Friday and Saturday, and 21:00 on Sunday. Before you leave the circuit, you can see official prize giving at 18:45 on the Sunday evening.

Remember this is a provisional timetable, and liable to change not only before the event but during the weekend as well, so do check back and watch out for updates on changes.
