10 best photos from Saturday at the 2024 Goodwood Revival
Day two of the Goodwood Revival is the first full day of racing. While we have the Sussex Trophy on the Friday evening to get the racing under way, it’s the Saturday when we have out first programme of multiple races in a single day.
Mixed weather – it wasn’t as bad as the previous day’s series of deluges – made for challenging conditions for drivers and riders, but that also meant we were treated to endless displays of expert car control. It was, therefore, wall to wall opportunities for our photographers to capture dramatic images of the action on track.
Our top ten images includes the glorious Aston Martin DB4 GT three-wheeling its way through the chicane during the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy. Equally beautiful are two Jaguar E-types – including one low drag car – battling in the RAC TT Celebration. Elsewhere we have the Vincent Black Lightning leaning through the chicane in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, and more action comes via the St. Mary’s Trophy (1960s saloon cars) and the Whitsun Trophy (1960s V8 sports prototypes).
While the focus of Saturday’s schedule is racing, there are other elements that contribute to the magic of the Goodwood Revival. Our photographers have snapped images from the front-row seats that are the paddocks and pre-race holding areas, as well as the celebratory parades that punctuate the the schedule.
One of them is the parade of beach buggies that marks the 60th anniversary of the original Meyers Manx. While many of the air-cooled fun cars in the parade were his design, it also featured variations on the theme that followed from other manufacturers. The passion and following they still evoke was clear to see.
In the same year Bruce Meyers was launching his beach buggy in California, John Surtees was claiming his first Formula 1 World Championship, having already claimed a world title on two wheels. To celebrate that anniversary, we’ve gathered a variety of significant cars and motorcycles from his career for a demonstration to remember.
