Florent Mulin put in an absolutely monstrous drive in his Dodge Viper GTS-R, scoring the tenth fastest time of the weekend during his final run in the Timed Shootout. It was as good to watch as it was fast, with drama and speed instilled in equal parts. Jenson Button followed in his electric rallycross car, then the future beckoned in the H24 Green GT.
Adam Smalley gave everyone a boatload of entertainment over the weekend with his spectacular drives, setting his fastest time in practice. Had he spent a little more time on the black stuff as opposed to the grass and in the air, he might’ve beaten it during the Shootout itself. The next four times speak to how incredible the variety is at the Festival of Speed. A Jaguar Group C car followed by the Ford SuperVan, followed by a hot rod Subaru Wagon, followed by a Formula 2 March, followed by an all-electric Porsche Cayman.
We were all waiting, this afternoon though, for Max Chilton in the McMurtry Automotive Spéirling, using its full 2,000kg downforce capability from those fans. The wait was worth it, given we can now confirm a new Sunday Timed Shootout Record of 39.08 seconds. An absolutely blinding drive that, either on video or in person, was difficult to believe the speed of. Watch the ten fastest times from the Hill at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed to relive the action.
