Video: The MC12 Corsa Cent 100’s exhaust could shatter glass

27th August 2020

We’re regularly reminded that high noise levels, whether from power tools, music, heavy machinery, are bad for the health of our ears. That if we want to be able to hear people whisper or the higher tones of a song, we should dial the volume back wherever possible. Well today is going to be an aural cheat day, courtesy of the Maserati MC12 Corsa Goodwood Cent 100.

A one-off revealed in 2014 to celebrate the centenary of the Italian automobile manufacturer and shown at that year’s Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, the Cent 100 essentially an MC12 Corsa, the racing version of an MC12 and therefore an MC12 with everything, including the volume, turned up to 11.
Fifty MC12s were built, cousins to the Ferrari Enzo with the same 6.0-litre, naturally-aspirated V12 engine. But where the Enzo was a road car only, the MC12 existed so that Maserati could enter the FIA GT World Championship with the MC12 GT1. And from that GT1 project came 12 ‘Versione Corse’, or MC12 Corsa. To be used only on the track but without the same restrictions as the GT1 racer, the bonkers Corsa and the one-off Corsa Cent 100 was a long-tailed, screaming lunatic with 755PS (555kW).

Watch the furious machine testing on a circuit before it makes its hillclimb debut, the driver, one Michael Bartels, the man who won the GT1 championship for Maserati in 2005, throwing a donut before attacking the 1.16-miles of tarmac with a vengeance. It’s possibly one of the loudest Festival runs we’ve ever heard.
