Four years after first being revealed, the one-off Aston Martin Victor makes its debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. Named after Victor Gauntlett, the Aston Martin proprietor who steered the company through choppy waters to the extent that was healthy enough to be sold to the Ford Motor Company, its wonderfully 1980s-style brutalist styling contrasts underpinnings and performance that are bang up to date.
Well, sort of. You won’t find paddleshifts here – its Cosworth-tweaked naturally-aspirated 847PS (623kW) V12 drives through a six-speed manual gearbox. It’s only to be expected from such an old-school appearance. Its lines are like a modernised V8 Vantage with hints of DBS V8 RHAM/1 Le Mans racer, all with a sheen of modernity befitting its carbon-fibre form. Visually, it’s an intoxicating mix of the old and the new.
Underpinning the car is the platform from the Vulcan (of which just 24 were built), itself based on the 77-off One-77. The Victor, however, is more powerful and torquey than its forebears thanks to the attention of Cosworth. It shows just how seriously Q Advanced Operations – the specialist wing in-house at Aston Martin – took the Victor project to have upped the power of its V12 engine on a one-off basis.
Since showing the one-off Victor, Aston Martin has put the similar Valour into limited production. Each of the 100 versions come with a price of £1,000,000 plus options, and differ from the Victor in having turbocharging for the V12 engine. The manual gearbox remains. The Valour is also making its way up the Hill during this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The message is clear: if you like your Astons with old-school styling, a V12 engine and three pedals, the company is willing to oblige.
