Flying up the Hill 42 years after it first ran in anger, the Bulldog was supposed to be Aston Martin’s first 200mph supercar and potentially the world’s fastest production car. Styled by William Towns, it used a 5.3-litre V8 engine with two Garrett turbos, enough for 608PS (447kW) and 678Nm (500lb ft) of torque, and in testing in 1980 hit a whopping 192mph. A fantastic achievement for a first test, but the project was scrapped soon after having been deemed too expensive. The singular example was sold on, but over the last two years, in the hands of a new owner, has been restored by restoration business Classic Motor Cars in Bridgnorth with the intention of hitting that 200mph goal.
It won’t be doing that on the Hill, of course, but to see if moving again, having faded into obscurity for 40 years, is a real privilege.
