We saw the premature demise of yet more tyres as the Drifters once again tore up the Hill – at least that's what we think they were doing behind all the smoke. The Driftkhana event has very quickly become a fan favourite here at the Festival of Speed.
Also in action on the famous hillclimb, we had Le Mans legends and Formula 1 icons, with Nigel Mansell jumping in a Ferrari 639 for some V12 noise and '80s throwbacks. Current Formula 1 star Zhou Guanyu was also in action at the wheel of the new Alfa Romeo Tonale.
Wayne Rainey seems to be gaining friends each time he takes to the Hill as he well and truly gets to grips with his specially prepared Yamaha YZR500, even getting the front wheel off the ground as he charged away from the start line. Dani Pedrosa joined this very special party on Saturday, and we all enjoyed the moment as Rainey was given the spotlight on the balcony at Goodwood House. This particular part of the weekend has captured the hearts of everyone here at the Festival of Speed.
Qualifying for Sunday's Timed Shootout rounded off a spectacular day of action, and all eyes were once again on the stunning progress of the McMurtry Speirling as it targets the outright hillclimb record. A time of 40.06 seconds is already tantalizingly close, and we'll have to wait and see if it can go any quicker on its final run this afternoon.
