Video: Ford Capri debuts at 2024 Festival of Speed

The Ford Capri has made its public debut on the Hill at the 2024 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and if you expected an everyman coupe, think again. The new Capri is a five-door, sloping roofed electric SUV. It’s similar to the Puma SUV, which replaced the beloved ‘90s coupe with the same name.

The electric Capri is good for 0-62mph in as little as 5.3 seconds with a range of up to 390 miles from the 77kWh battery Extended-range model that will launch in the UK. A cheaper version with a 52kWh battery is also on the way.

The Capri like the explorer is another child of the trade agreement between Ford and Volkswagen, which sees the Capri using VW's skateboard MEB architecture in broadly the same form as it's used in the ID.5 EV SUV coupe.

The Capri launched off the line with impressive verve and looked neat through the corners, the plume of dust kicked up by the pack tyres the only clue to the performance without any engine noise.

Expect it to be one of the sportier family EVs, alongside its siblings the Explorer and Mustang Mach-E, when it goes on sale, priced from £48,075.
