Sunday started with some of the final runs up the Hill by the ‘Horseless to Hybrid’ theme batches, as well as the thrilling Supercar set and those cars and bikes that had made their debuts over the course of the event as part of First Glance presented heycar. On Sunday this featured a Goodwood regular, chef James Martin, behind the wheel of the Yangwang U8, and he shares all about his experience afterwards.
This Full Day video also features newly confirmed Haas Formula 1 driver Oliver Bearman chat about his time taking to the Hill in the Ferrari SF70H, as part of the F1 run, alongside the IOM TT and Dirt bikes.
And following this F1 run, the Sunday crowds were treated to a display unlike any other seen at the Festival of Speed, as Red Bull Racing celebrated its 20th anniversary by running seven of their F1 cars up the Hill, including six world championship winners. We saw Christian Klein in the RB1, Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo in the RB6 and RB7 respectively, with Team Principle Christian Horner following in the RB8. Then, reigning world champion Max Verstappen made his Festival of Speed debut, driving his 2021 championship-winning RB16B, joined by teammate Sergio Pérez in 2022’s RB18. F1 Academy also made got its first representation at the Festival, with Hamda Al Qubaisi guiding her Red Bull-liveried car from this current season up the Hill. We even saw Adrian Newey and passenger David Coulthard in the Newey designed Aston Martin Valkyrie. All drivers made their way to the balcony afterwards to take in the appreciation of the vast crowds – it was a truly a highlight of the event.
By Sunday afternoon, it was finally time for the final of the Timed Shootout, and as a spectacle it did not disappoint. In the pursuit to go flat out up the Hill, we saw multiple participants crash out, the numerous red flags drawing out proceedings. But after three hours of action, it came down to Scott Speed in the Subaru WRX: Project Midnight to lay down the marker for Romain Dumas in the Ford Supervan 4.2. Ultimately, it was two-time Le Mans winner Dumas who took the title by 2.09 seconds, a thrilling end to an unforgettable week.
