It’s amazing how fast time flies, for we’re now a month on from the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. Looking back, in spite of a few bumps (or gusts) in the road, it was a bumper event for cars making their first public appearance as they tackled Goodwood's haloed Tarmac. We’ve listed no less than 15 Hill debuts that amazed us.
This was seemingly a year of incredible track-only specials, with the searing screech of the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro joined by the V10 howl of the McLaren Solus GT – our eventual Shootout winner, no less – and the thunderous bellow of the Bugatti Bolide.
In terms of spectacular road car debuts, it’s that time in the decade when Pagani and Lamborghini refresh their flagships, so we had the new Utopia and Revuelto strutting their stuff. A bit further down the pay grade was the worldwide public debut of the Porsche 718 Spyder RS. We say a bit further down, they’ll be selling for £200,000 on the open market before too long.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N showed us what the electric future of hot hatches could look like and indeed, it’s smoky and fast. All that and so much more, made us so excited for the year in cars we have ahead.
