When we saw the Ford Very Gay Raptor on the entry list for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, we will admit we did a double-take. Then we looked up the story and it all made sense. This car is a totem for social betterment that we can one hundred per cent get behind.
So how does Ford end up painting a Ranger Raptor in the pride colours and calling it the Very Gay Raptor?
It all started when an internet troll commented on a social media image of a Ranger, calling it ‘very gay’ as a slur. Ford UK’s social team then edited together an image of what an actual ‘very gay’ Ranger would look like, in the literal sense.
It struck a chord with their audience, such that they were spurned to make it real. Now it’s a catalyst for very important conversations, about acceptance and inclusivity, in the automotive industry and beyond.
That commenter, while a bit of an idiot, has unwittingly started something special. Here at FOS the Very Gay Raptor is spreading the good work and sparking those conversations. It’s great to see it lighting up the Hill.
