Saturday at the 2024 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard was packed with moments you just wish you could snap with you mind’s eye and keep forever. Happily, we have a team of highly-trained, expert photographers whose sole reason for being, is doing exactly that with their cameras. Some of the moments they immortalised will have you cracking a smile and bring a tear to your eye. We’ve picked out ten of the best from Saturday alone.
On the latter point, the absolutely astonishing scene of Richard ‘The King’ Petty getting a passenger ride on the Beast of Turin, leaving the line in parallel with his son Kyle in the Superbird, just about encapsulates everything we love about doing what we do. It was an emotional goodbye for us as we don’t expect him to be making the journey over the Atlantic for us again. So his final Festival of Speed flourish couldn’t be anything other than spectacular.
Reuniting Juan Pablo Montoya with his 2004 Williams was a pretty epic moment. The veteran driver was entirely complimentary of his old steer and how quick it still feels. Probably because the 2004 season of cars were some of the fastest F1 cars ever made, to this day...
The Vodafone Maserati MC12 tackling the afternoon downpour looks particularly spectacular, adding a splash of bright colour to the otherwise drenched grey scene.
TT titan Dunlop riding around to meet the Duke and Bearman giving the Ferrari F1 car a good skidding make for emotional and spectacular scenes too, as we celebrate the achievements of one and look to the future and potential of another.
