05th February 2020

As if Sunday afternoon at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard wasn’t enough wild enough, we’re going to spoil you with a triple-header of high-octane shootout action in 2020. How? Well for the first time ever, the competitors on the Forest Rally Stage will join the fun with a timed shootout of their own.

Traditionally the winners of the Forest Rally Stage have been found through an ongoing aggregation of times over the whole weekend. But for 2020 the fastest 40 cars on the stage from the previous two days will go into a final shootout on Sunday afternoon – concluding shortly before the Hill’s timed shootout gets going.

Joining the historic cars from through the history of rallying will be a selection of leading teams from the British Rally Championship, who will bring their latest R5 and R2 cars to compete on the stage in greater number than ever before.

The addition of the new timed shootout means that the final day of the Festival of Speed is set to be a bigger spectacle than ever, with not one, not two, but three separate shootouts occurring on the same day, as the Hill, rally stage and Off-Road Arena all reach their dramatic conclusions.

Those who make their way to the rally stage for the shootout will also be in prime position to bag a spot by the top paddock to see the conclusion of the Hill shootout. Adrenaline still pumping, competitors fresh from their shootout runs will gather as they await the news of faster, or slower times, and spectators will be right on hand to see champagne sprayed and be at the heart of the ecstatic celebrations.

The Forest Rally Stage was designed by rallying legend Hannu Mikkola and snakes its way through around a 1.9-mile loose surface course through the forest at the top of Goodwood’s famous Hill.

The rally stage, and its open paddock, is one of the hidden gems of the Festival, with excellent spectator viewing and an incredible array of rallying history on show. Over the years the stage has played host to Group B monsters, WRC-spec cars from McRae, Burns and Mäkinen, and the latest greatest from the likes of Ogier, Evans and co.
