While most attention at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is focused on the Hill, those with the will to make the trip to the Forest Rally Stage are treated to an altogether different spectacle. And as you can hitch a ride on a tractor trailer, it’s definitely worth the effort.

The rally machines were divided into four batches, ranging from bona fide classics to the latest R5 spec technical tour de forces. If older cars are your preference, you’ll be drawn to the Birth of Stage Rallying batch. There, you’ll find headline cars like the Morris Mini Cooper S, Lancia Stratos and Triumph TR7 V8. There are some wildcards, too. How about a Lotus Esprit?

Prefer things a little more hardcore? The broad-shouldered, box-arched Legends of Group B category is for you. There you’ll find the Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4 and Ford RS200 Evo. There’s also a Lada VFTS and a Peugeot 504 Pick-up to mix things up. The Dawn of Modern Rallying features cars from the 1990s, including the Ford Escort RS Cosworth, Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi Evo. The aforementioned R5 cars are in the Contempory Rally Cars category.

If you didn’t make the trip to the Forest Rally Stage, our photographers captured the action for you in this gallery.
