Every car showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is special, but this one in particular is one we find particularly exciting. It’s a McLaren MCL35M, specifically the won driven by Daniel Ricciardo to victory at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
It’s not every day you’re able to get this close to a modern Formula 1 car, let alone one that has raced and won at one of the most historic circuits on the planet. The race itself was a memorable one, too, the image of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull parked on top of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes is burned into the brains of every F1 fan who followed last year's tumultuous season closely.
That drama in the championship battle paved the way for Ricciardo to take his first victory for McLaren – his first since he walked away from Red Bull at the end of the 2018 season. He’d had something of a mixed season up to that point, having been pretty comprehensively outperformed by his younger teammate Lando Norris, so taking the team’s biggest result of the year was something of a redeeming moment for the Aussie.
The car itself is stunning its papaya and blue livery, tucked away as it is in a quiet corner of the Festival of Speed grounds – the perfect place for this Formula 1 monster to sleep peacefully.
