A new type of performance Ford has made its debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented my Mastercard. It comes from, er, Ford Performance and it’s called the Mustang Mach-E Rally. Don’t let the knobblies and stage-ready wheels fool you. This is a road car and is destined to add a second prong to the head of the Mach-E lineup with added off-road performance.
But no, as the name suggests, the Rally isn’t a car destined to relieve your old Land Rover of green-laning duties. It’s designed to give you an authentic rally experience with the ability to hit special stages at high speed.
To prove the point, Ford entrusted the Mach-E Rally’s Hill debut to Ott Tanak, current M-Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 racer. Thankfully, it made its run before the skies opened, but that didn’t stop Tanak from putting the Mach-E Rally’s all-wheel-drive to good use, make it do the slightest of dances around the first two corners. Apart from that and being really rather fast, the run was drama-free.
In terms of what we can see that’s different about the Rally? Well, it’s in disguise at the moment. What we can see is a reprofiled front bumper, with new spotlights in the ‘grille’. There are obviously those new wheels, while round the back, there’s a bit more diffuser and most prominent, a very Focus RS-looking wing.
As for performance numbers? No word, on power, how quick it is or anything. TBD…
“Mustang Mach-E took the freedom and fun of Mustang and made it free from emissions,” said Darren Palmer, Vice President, Electric Vehicle Programs.
“Now with Mustang Mach-E Rally, we’re providing our customers the freedom to venture off the asphalt and beyond the beaten path.”
