2020 Goodwood Festival of Speed postponed

26th March 2020
Ben Miles

Goodwood has always prided itself on delivering the most incredible motorsport experiences around. But in order to do that we must keep our fans, drivers, team members, volunteers and staff safe. As a result we have taken the sad decision to postpone the 2020 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. The safety and wellbeing of our customers remains our highest priority.

In 1993, the first Festival of Speed marked the return of motorsport to West Sussex after a gap of nearly forty years. Now, every year, hundreds of cars take to the Goodwood Hill, bringing together the world’s greatest cars, bikes and motorsport legends past and present.

Behind the scenes, our dedicated team work year-round to deliver an event that showcases the very heart of motorsport. Supporting us are the riders, drivers and owners who bring our stage to life but most importantly it’s you, the fans, that make the event so special. Since the beginning, we have seen the event grow from strength to strength, attracting over 200,000 enthusiasts and fans from over 70 countries – our customers are the most important people involved in everything we do.

“Over the last few weeks, we have been working together with everyone involved to understand the viability of the Festival of Speed going ahead in July. Due to the uncertainty of the coronavirus threat and not knowing whether the situation will have significantly improved by then, we sadly need to postpone the Festival of Speed in July,” said The Duke of Richmond.

These are dramatic and unbelievable times but they will pass, and we are already trying to think about just how exciting it’s going to be to welcome you all back to Goodwood for what perhaps might be the ‘Greatest Event Ever’.

Goodwood is exploring alternative dates in late summer or early autumn with all relevant parties. All tickets will remain valid for the new date when it is announced.

We appreciate that these are fallow times for all motorsport fans. And as a result GRR will be doing our best to keep you entertained over the coming weeks with some classic action from our archives.

A new date for the postponed 78th Members’ Meeting is also being reviewed – to get a motorsport fix in place of this weekend’s postponed meeting, Goodwood Road & Racing will host a Members’ Meeting Favourite Moments live stream this weekend (March 28th and 29th) with a selection of our favourite races and demonstrations from the incredible GRRC archive.

The live stream will begin at 10am and run until 6pm GMT on Saturday, and continuing through the same hours on Sunday, just as we would have done for a normal Members’ Meeting. Sunday, however, will of course be BST, so don't forget to change your clocks!

We will continue to review plans for the Revival, in the hope that the event will be able to go ahead as planned on September 11th-13th, as well as looking forward to the rescheduled 78th Members’ Meeting.
