We couldn’t celebrate the 100th Goodwood Breakfast Club without a small area dedicated to the good ol’ V8 goodness that comes from the other side of the pond.
Our area of Americana was filled with cars from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge and even Hudson, and looked – and of course sounded – spectacular in the May sunshine. There was even a racing car in there – a specially-built machine for attacking ovals in the US that’s been brought to the UK to run on the road.
We will dwell for a moment on the fabulous Hudson, replete with a pair of US flags on the bonnet as if ready to transport some dignitaries. It’s as brown as brown could be but looks almost regal, from a land where kings and queens are chased away at gunpoint.
Also catching the eyes was something a lot more modern – a Camaro ZL1. A car with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 is not something you see every day in the UK, and with its big rear wing and large dive planes visitors were in no danger of missing it.
Finally, don’t forget to see the utterly glorious beige Lincoln Town car – our favourite of which must be the seat controls on the OUTSIDE of the door. Brilliantly pointless.
