The Goodwood tunnel is heavy with the smell of Castrol R this morning as hundreds of classic cars file into the penultimate Breakfast Club of 2019: Classic Car Sunday!
The criteria for today’s event was simple – if it’s old enough to be tax exempt (pre-1979), then it’s old enough for us! Two-wheels, four – three even – are now flocking into an early-morning sun-soaked circuit and taking a seat on the grid, ready for thousands of enthusiasts to pour over until midday.
Forget the Supercars of the last Sunday Breakfast Club, today is all about the unsung heroes of yesteryear. From BMW’s lesser-known bubble car – the 1950s Isetta – to a number of Morris Minors, the Motor Circuit grid is a sight to behold. Transport yourself, quite literally, back to the golden age of motoring – whenever you decide that may be.
Of course, there’s a fair share of classic exotica too, from a lovely Lamborghini Muira S to a Ferrari 328 GTS. Representing Britain in the performance stakes is a handful of Jaguar E-Types and the occasional TVR Griffith.
From the other end of British motor manufacturing is a muster of Minis, gathering at the Jackie Stewart Pavilion in celebration of the brand’s 60th anniversary.
And occupying the paddock is a plethora of Porsches – 911s in all shapes and sizes. Joining them is a gaggle of 356s – also known as Porsche first proper sportscar.
So, get wandering – there’s plenty to see!
