The Goodwood Education Trust, the independent environmental education charity operating on the Goodwood Estate, is celebrating after being awarded £4,680 of funding from CLA Charitable Trust to support its work to connect more vulnerable and disadvantaged children with nature. Operating on the Goodwood Estate near Chichester, the charity will use the funding to welcome schools with high numbers of children eligible for means-tested Free School Meals to the farm.

The Education Trust has been working with children and young people since 1972 and was founded by the 10th Duke of Richmond who saw a real need to inspire children with a love of nature and the countryside. Based on Goodwood’s own organic farm, Home Farm, the charity welcomes school children to the farm all year round. In 2023, they welcomed almost 1,800 children, with many on a free funded visit. In spring term 2024, over 40% of children on a free visit were eligible for means-tested Free School Meals.

The funding from the CLA Charitable Trust, which works to enable disadvantaged or disabled people to participate in learning experiences about the countryside will see almost 400 school children spend time on the farm, meeting the animals and learning about food production, children who would otherwise not have the opportunity, children for whom it will make such a difference, both now and in their future.

We’re delighted that the CLA Charitable Trust has recognised the work of our organisation. The support of the CLA Charitable Trust means we will be able to welcome more disadvantaged or vulnerable children who may otherwise not have the chance, to experience learning outdoors, strengthen their connection with food production and benefit from the natural environment.
