Porsche’s new Le Mans car to make world debut at Festival of Speed

The new hybrid racing car, which will battle for glory in the hands of the new Porsche Penske Motorsport team, will be seen alongside the incredible all-electric 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance and the Le Mans winning 911 RSR at the Festival of Speed.

Porsche Penske Motorsport will also appear for the very first time at the Festival, the perfect follow-up to last year’s incredible celebration of Roger Penske’s incredible motorsport history.

The new LMDh racer is eligible for both the World Endurance Championsip and the IMSA Sportscar Championship, and will race on both sides of the pond alongside cars from manufacturers including BMW, Toyota, Lamborghini, Cadillac, Acura, Ferrari and Peugeot. It becomes the second LMDh car to make its debut at the Festival of Speed this year, with BMW’s brand new BMW M Hybrid V8 set to debut on the latest Central Feature sculpture.

As well as the LMDh car, Porsche’s other new racing project – the 718 GT4 ePerformance – will also make a debut. The first all-electric racing car from Porsche, this 612PS (450kW) machine is also capable of producing up to 1,000PS (735kW) in its most aggressive mode.

The 911 Sport Classic is the latest in a long line of special edition “Sport Classic” versions of the 911. Inspired by the original 911 and 911 Carrera RS 2.7 it features an iconic ducktail spoiler and a seven-speed manual gearbox.

Porsche will also be bringing a slew of historic cars from its back catalogue to celebrate our theme ‘The Innovators – Masterminds of Motorsport’. Among this incredible set of cars will the 1962 Porsche 804 – which, in the hands of Dan Gurney, became the only Porsche F1 car ever to win a race – and a 1982 Porsche 956, helping to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the birth of Group C. Also in the list is the 2007 Porsche RS Spyder, run by Penske to win titles in the American Le Mans Series and at Le Mans, and the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, a one-off hybrid 911 GT3 that raced with an ingenious flywheel design.

Topping that off will be the Porsche 911 RSR, the car that won the last ever Le Mans GTE Pro race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans just last weekend.

As well as these amazing racing cars Porsche is also set to display its latest amazing road cars. These machines, taking places in First Glance presented by Heycar and the Michelin Supercar Paddock, include the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS (which you can watch a review of right here), 911 GT3, 911 GT2 RS featuring a new performance kit from Manthey Racing and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo.
